Graeme Jones tonight confirmed that Luton Town are trying to bring former striker Isaac Vassell back to Kenilworth Road before the end of the transfer window, though any is ‘complicated’.
The frontman left Luton in 2017, moving to Birmingham City under Harry Redknapp for a reported £1million, but serious injuries to his hip and knee have reduced his appearances to just 24 with one goal to his name.
Rumours surfaced earlier in the week about a possible loan deal for the former Truro goalscorer, though it’s understood that Birmingham are trying to sign another forward before they’ll let him leave.
After watching his side draw 3-3 tonight in their Championship opener, Jones said: “We’re interested in Isaac, but it’s a little bit complicated.
“He’s somebody I like because he’s got great pace and power.
“Obviously Luton fans will be very aware of what he can do, so he’s somebody that we’re really, really interested in, but it hasn’t been straight-forward.”
Asked if he’s still interested in adding new recruits before the transfer window shuts at 5pm on Thursday, Jones said: “Absolutely, we need to.
“I was generally delighted with the contribution of 14 players tonight but we need to add to that as well and that’s where the work’s going to be in the next six days until Thursday.
“We need to focus on Cardiff, but as last now we’ve got a bit of respite in terms of turning our attention to recruitment.
“We’ve got a few things in the pot, nothing that’s going to happen imminently.
“We all know the craziness of the last week of the window, we need to be first in the queue and think outside the box and maybe we can pick up some gems.”
