Community groups and individuals across Luton have organised a range of activities to promote and celebrate Black History Month 2024.

There are events for everyone ranging from stalls, poetry, music and art; to an exploration of migration and a showcase of African and Caribbean history.

Some events include advice on the Windrush Compensation Scheme and even provide opportunities for residents to complete health checks.

Black History Month runs every October in the UK to recognise and celebrate the invaluable contributions of black people to British society.

Councillor Javed Hussain, Deputy Leader of Luton Council, said: “Black History Month is a time for us to recognise and celebrate the invaluable contributions of black people here in Luton and across Britain. It’s also important we take the opportunity to ensure that the month is used to inspire and empower future generations.

“It’s great to see events happening here in Luton with different groups celebrating Black History Month in their own unique ways. I encourage everyone to pop along to an event to be entertained, inspired and educated.”

Details will shortly be announced about a local black heroes campaign which will be launched during the month by Luton Council.
