Luton Town have confirmed that a long-serving director has stepped down from his position on the club’s board and have announced a new appointee as General Counsel.
Stephen Browne, one of the founding members of the Luton Town 2020 consortium that rescued the Hatters from administration in 2008, played a central role in the club’s revival and rise through the football pyramid. Since helping stabilise operations following the takeover, he has contributed to four promotions that took the club from the National League into the Premier League.
While stepping back from board duties, Browne will retain his stake in the club and is expected to remain a familiar presence at Kenilworth Road among fans, staff and fellow directors.
As part of a wider corporate restructure, the club also announced the appointment of lawyer Glyn Taylor to the board. Taylor has served as corporate legal counsel to the Luton Town 2020 Holdings group for several years and will now take on the role of General Counsel. He will be advising across all legal, governance and structural matters within the group, including the ongoing Power Court development.
In a club statement, chairman David Wilkinson paid tribute to Browne’s long-term involvement in the club’s success, saying: “Stephen was a founder of the 2020 consortium, and he has since been a valued member of the investor group and played a key non-executive role in helping the Club to those four promotions.
“Stephen will remain as a shareholder in the club and he will always be welcome at Kenilworth Road. We offer our heartfelt thanks for his contribution to the board over the past many years and wish him well in all his future ventures.
“At the same time, we welcome Glyn warmly to the board. Glyn is someone who has worked with us for over a decade already and will continue to add his considerable legal experience and expertise to the group.”
