A part of Luton’s nightlife and community for more than three decades has announced its impending closure.

Iconic Irish pub, O’Shea’s Bar and Grill, which first opened its doors on 29th May 1991, has been a cornerstone of music, memories, and camaraderie for generations of patrons.

Con and Della O’Shea, the husband-and-wife team originally behind the boozer opened the Castle Street after moving from the Abbey Tavern in St Albans where they had been since 1983.

Over the years, O’Shea’s built a reputation as a lively music pub, hosting live performances seven nights a week in its early days. The pub was kept in the family when it was passed to Michael O’Shea.

In an emotional farewell Facebook post, the owners expressed gratitude to their loyal patrons and dedicated staff, many of whom began their careers at O’Shea’s and became lifelong friends.

The post read: “To all of our staff, past and present, thank you so much. You really are the place. We even have some O’Shea’s marriages and babies out there!” they shared.

While the final closure date has not yet been confirmed, the pub plans to go out on a high note with a series of festive events in December, featuring live music from fan favourites including Whiskey B4 Breakfast, Kell, and the Biblecode Sundays. The celebrations will culminate in a New Year’s Eve party with Splitting Rocks.

There’s still time for those who want to bid farewell to this iconic establishment before the doors close for good in January.

O’Shea’s final festive period will be:
Saturday 7th – Whiskey B4 Breakfast
Friday 13th – Kell (Free entry)
Saturday 14th – One for the road
Friday 20th – Biblecode Sundays (SOLD OUT)
Friday 27th – Chamberlane (Tickets available from the bar)
Saturday 28th – Lauren Cara
Tuesday 31st – NYE Party with Splitting Rocks (Tickets available from the bar)
