Boss Graeme Jones believes there are no more barriers left to Luton’s progress in the Championship after beating Huddersfield 3-1 to claim a first Championship victory at Kenilworth Road.

It was Town’s second win on the spin after recording their first of the league campaign at Barnsley last weekend.

Yesterday, Jones’ side showed character to come back from a goal down, with a James Collins penalty and an Andrew Shinnie stunner.

After a tricky start to life back in the Championship, where they suffered one draw then three defeats on the spin for the first time in more than two years, despite some good performances, beating Huddersfield was hugely significant.

Jones said: “It’s finished, the psychological barrier is over now, onwards and upwards, that’s where we are.

“For me, it was the last psychological barrier, a home win.

“I don’t think we need to talk about psychology now, we are at this level, on merit, competing in every single game, we’ve got better since the start of the season and it’s my job to maintain progress.

“The big thing for me is the psychological barrier is over, gone.

“That was the first thing we had to contend with, we’ve achieved that now and next we need to look forward and see where we can get.

“I don’t want to make any bold predictions, but lets look at the Queens Park Rangers game, make sure we prepare well and we’re as competitive as we have been in the first six.”

The victory was Town’s first at Kenilworth Road in the Championship since February 20, 2007, when they beat Sheffield Wednesday 3-2.

Shinnie said of getting that first home league win: “It’s a big step up, coming into the Championship. You can’t underestimate that, there are some great teams, players and athletes. They’re all fit, strong and fast, but we feel we belong here. We feel we’re a good team, we’ve been playing well and I don’t think there’s any game we’ve played poorly in.

“Maybe we’ve started some second halves poorly, but the long the (wait for the) first win went, then the pressure starts to build and you just want that relief of getting it.

“We’ve been playing well every week and the gaffer has been saying we’re progressing. He’s seeing things that we’re working on coming in more and more and the gaffer said, three wins in a week, not a lot of teams do that. It’s been a great week and we’ll have a little break now.”
