Luton is set to host what organisers are calling its largest-ever classical music event as Proms in the Park arrives as part of the town’s 150th anniversary celebrations. The outdoor concert will bring together young musicians, established ensembles and alumni for a large-scale evening of live performance and entertainment.

The event on September 13 in Stockwood Park will follow the day after rock band The Kaiser Chiefs play the park. It is being delivered in partnership with Luton Music Service and headline sponsored by the council’s airport company Luton Rising. It will feature a professionally produced programme of performances, a full event village and a fireworks finale designed to round off the evening.

Councillor Basit Mahmood, portfolio holder for town centre regeneration and inclusive growth, said: “As we celebrate 150 years of Luton, an incredibly important milestone for our town, we wanted to create an event that is both inspiring and accessible. Luton Rising presents Proms in the Park will be the town’s largest-ever classical music event, bringing together outstanding local talent for a spectacular evening of music and celebration.

“By offering tickets from just £5, we’re helping to remove barriers for our residents and ensure more people can experience and enjoy classical music. We hope this event will not only be a highlight of the anniversary year but also demonstrate the appetite for more large-scale cultural events in Luton in the years ahead.”

Councillor Javeria Hussain, Vice Chair of Luton Rising said: “We’re proud to be sponsoring a full weekend of celebrations this September and to help make this event more accessible for local residents, ensuring more people can come together and enjoy this fantastic community occasion.”

Julia Fraser, Head of Luton Music Service, said: “We are delighted to be organising Proms in the Park as part of Luton’s 150 celebrations, showcasing the incredible talent of Luton’s young musicians alongside former pupils and staff in a specially formed symphony orchestra.

“This unique event will bring together current and former members of Luton Music Service, including professional musicians who began their musical journeys here, highlighting the lasting impact of music education in the town. Alongside performances from our senior ensembles, it promises to be a memorable evening celebrating musical excellence, community spirit and the rich legacy of Luton Music Service.”

Performers on the night will include the Luton Youth Percussion Orchestra and Luton Youth Funk Band alongside a range of other ensembles, with the evening culminating in a Proms Symphony Orchestra performance featuring both current musicians and alumni.

Alongside the music, visitors will be able to access a full event village with food vendors, bars, family activities and face painting. There will also be a VIP area, accessible viewing platform and quiet zone to ensure a wider range of audiences can attend comfortably.

Tickets are on sale now via Ticketmaster at ticketmaster.co.uk/lutonproms, with prices starting from £5 for selected early-release tickets. Organisers say the first 1,000 tickets across selected categories will be offered at a discounted rate.

General admission for over-13s will be £10 after the initial allocation, with under-13 tickets priced at £5 and family tickets at £20. VIP tickets, available for over-18s only, are priced at £35, while accessible tickets are set at £8 and include a free carer ticket on request.

The event forms part of Luton’s wider 150th anniversary programme of celebrations taking place throughout the year.
