Luton singer-songwriter Myles Smith has cancelled one of the dates on his North American tour after revealing there has been a “major family health issue” at home.
The 28-year-old, who recently returned to Luton for a town-wide celebration marking the release of his debut album, announced that his scheduled concert in Vancouver on August 4 would no longer go ahead because he needed to be with his family.
In a message to fans on Instagram, Smith said: “To everyone who was planning on coming to the Vancouver show. You may have received a notification that the show has been cancelled. I wanted to explain why, because I never want to leave you in the dark.
“There has been a major family health issue at home, and important appointments are taking place on that date. I simply can’t not be there. Family has to come first, and this wasn’t a decision I made lightly.”
Smith acknowledged the disappointment the cancellation would cause supporters who had already made plans to attend.
“I know many of you have spent your hard-earned money, made travel plans and set aside time to be there. The fact that you continue to show up for me means more than I can put into words, and I never want to take that for granted or lose the trust we’ve built together.”
The singer stressed that the decision only affects the Vancouver date and said the rest of his tour is expected to continue as planned.
“I also want to reassure everyone with tickets for the shows after Vancouver that this decision is specific to this date because of those appointments. As things stand, the rest of the shows are going ahead as planned, and I can’t wait to see you. Thank you for your understanding, your patience, and for always supporting me. It truly means the world.”
In a second statement, Smith explained to fans why he had chosen to speak publicly about the situation.
“I will always try to be as open and transparent with you as I can. I respect you all too much not to be. I would never cancel a show unless I absolutely had to.”
The Luton-born musician said he has performed more than 400 shows over the past four years and has only ever cancelled four, all for reasons beyond his control. He added: “I don’t say that to make excuses, but to show you how seriously I take the commitment of showing up for you.”
Addressing disappointed fans directly, he continued: “I’ve already seen some of the frustration and disappointment, and I completely understand it. If you’d booked time off, travelled, or spent money to be there, I’d feel exactly the same. I’m not asking for anybody to feel sorry for me! I just wanted to give you as much information as I could, because I believe that’s what you deserve. Whilst trying to maintain the privacy of the circumstances back home.”
He concluded: “I’m truly sorry and I’ll be back as soon as it’s feasibly possible. Thank you for continuing to support me. It means more than you’ll ever know.”
Earlier this month, Smith revealed he had briefly returned home because there was “a lot going on” in his personal life, although he did not elaborate on the circumstances.
The former Lealands High School student has enjoyed a remarkable rise over the past two years. His debut album, My Mess, My Heart, My Life, recently became the biggest-selling debut album released in 2026, while he has also won the BRIT Rising Star Award and amassed billions of streams worldwide.
Before flying to North America, Smith returned to his hometown for a day-long takeover of Luton, where thousands of fans turned out for events across the town, including a free concert in St George’s Square, an album signing at HMV and appearances at locations that have played an important role in his journey from Leagrave schoolboy to global music star.
