Luton Town have completed the signing of right-winger Shayden Morris from Aberdeen, with the 23-year-old becoming the latest summer arrival at Kenilworth Road, on what is expected to be a busy transfer deadline day for the club.

Morris joins after an impressive spell in the Scottish Premiership, where he played a key role in Aberdeen’s Scottish Cup triumph last season and was named the club’s Player of the Year.

He was left out of The Dons’ Europa League play-off qualifying defeat to FCSB in Romania last week after Town reignited interest in him, having been linked with a move earlier in the summer.

Now, the pacey attacker says he is determined to make his mark in Bedfordshire and help the Hatters push for promotion.

“I want to excite the fans and get them off their seats, score goals and get assists and I feel, after speaking with the manager, that this is the place I can do that,” Morris told LTFC+.

“This is an ambitious club, a massive club, with really passionate fans, and as soon as I knew this could be happening, I looked closely at the club and the squad, and it’s really strong.

“I’m also an ambitious person who wants to be playing and winning football matches – and play at the highest level. That’s why I chose Luton.”

Manager Matt Bloomfield is equally excited to have secured the deal.

“We are really excited to sign Shayden,” he said. “He’s someone who has experienced League One football before as a young player at Fleetwood, and he’s gone on to prove himself in the Scottish Premiership with Aberdeen.

“He offers really good individual ability with his pace and dribbling, and will add some real thrust to our attack with one v one elements in the final third of the pitch.

“There has been a lot of work that has gone into the deal and we are really pleased to have him at our club. We can’t wait to get to work with him.”

Born in Newham, London, Morris played youth football with Gideon Kodua – currently on loan with Luton from West Ham – and came through Southend’s academy before moving to Fleetwood Town as a scholar in 2018. He made his senior debut in the EFL Trophy a year later and signed his first professional deal with the Cod Army in 2020.

His league bow came against Portsmouth in January 2021, while his first goal followed the next season in a 3-2 win over Cheltenham. A breakthrough campaign in 2021/22 paved the way for a move to Aberdeen, where he signed ahead of the 2022/23 season.

After 34 appearances across his first two years in Scotland, Morris truly flourished last term, playing 49 matches as Aberdeen finished fifth in the Premiership, lifted the Scottish Cup and reached the League Cup semi-finals. He even delivered the cross that led to the equaliser in the Scottish Cup final.
