Luton Town Supporters’ Trust have announced that they will be sponsoring Luton Town Ladies players Kiki Christofi and Leyah Maddix for the entirety of the 2019-20 campaign.

Having sponsored the kit of some Luton youth team players and contributed to the cost of training bibs for the Luton Community Trust in the last two years, the Trust is backing the two Ladies aces.

Versatile wing back Maddix has been with the club since the under-14s, with a short break to go to university, while Christofi is in her second season with the Ladies team and plays in the number 10 position; she is studying for her Masters degree.

In a statement, the Trust said it ‘takes great pride in working with the community, and sees this as an opportunity to give back to an organisation that also represents our fine club.’

The sponsorship was announced at Luton Ladies’ 7-0 FA Women’s Cup preliminary round win over Leigh Ladies on Sunday afternoon, where Christofi scored the final goal of the game.

The Supporters’ Trust’s new marketing officer Maryan Broadbent and fundraising co-ordinator June Adamson presented the players with a cheque to the tune of £400.

Broadbent said: “It is great to be able to donate our sponsorship fund for
this season to a very worthy cause, one which ties in with our aims of
working with the football club and the community.

“When we met the girls after their outstanding win on Sunday they explained their tight financial situation, which makes the opportunity to help out even more fulfilling. We look forward to following the progress of Kiki, Leyah and the whole Luton Town Ladies team over the course of the campaign, and wish them a very successful season.”

The ladies team do not receive any outside funding, so have to pay to
play themselves, plus costs such as pitch hire, referees and travelling
– all hefty sums for them to cover.

Striker Dionne Manning has set up a JustGiving page for fans to donate and help them out. The aim is to raise £5,000, which will cover costs and allow them to buy a team minibus to transport them to away games.
