Luton Town defender Joe Johnson has been called up to represent England at this summer’s UEFA Under-19 European Championship in Romania.
The talented teenager, who made eight appearances for the Hatters this season, has been named in head coach Will Antwi’s 21-man squad for the tournament, which kicks off on Saturday 14 June. Johnson and his team-mates will begin their campaign against Norway at the Ilie Oana Stadium in Ploiesti, before taking on Germany and the Netherlands in the group stage.
England’s second group game will be against Germany on Tuesday 17 June at the Arcul de Triumf Stadium in Bucharest, with the final group match set for Friday 20 June against the Netherlands at the Giulesti Stadium.
Should the Young Lions progress, the semi-finals are scheduled for Monday 23 June, with the final taking place on Thursday 26 June.
Johnson has played a key role in helping England reach the finals, with the side topping their elite qualifying group back in March. That run included a crucial win over Portugal, following a draw with Turkiye and victory against hosts Wales.
Before that, the group travelled to Bulgaria in November for the first round of qualifying, where they remained unbeaten with wins against Lithuania and Bulgaria, and a draw with Belgium.
