A former Luton Town youth has shocked AFC Wimbledon by signing for League One rivals Bradford City.
Marsh Farm’s Josh Neufville came up through the Hatters Academy, but left in 2023 when they were promoted to the Premier League.
Town’s relegation from the Championship and Neufville’s role in helping Wimbledon to win promotion from League Two meant he was poised to face his hometown club in the third tier in the coming campaign.
The 24-year-old still will have the chance to play Luton, but it will be in the colours of Bradford after he penned a three-year deal with the Bantams as his Dons contract is set to expire.
Neufville, who scored the goal that got the south Londoners to Wembley for their successful play-off final win last month, told his new club: “I am just hungry to get started. It is a cliché to say the fans are the biggest reason, but I wanted to be a part of a team that when others come to us, they are fearful of us, and somewhere that fits my style of play.
“Speaking to the manager, I believe this is the right fit for me. It is difficult to move away from Wimbledon, but I needed a new challenge and coming to Bradford, I knew it would be a good platform to show what I can do in my career.”
On an Instagram post, he also send a parting message to Wimbledon fans, where he’s played for the last two seasons.
Neufville wrote: “Dear Womble fans, it’s time to say goodbye it’s been a great 2 year ride and I couldn’t have thought of a better way to end it then winning at Wembley in front of all you fans, a day I’ll never forget and hopefully a day you will all cherish.
“We’ve created some great memories in the last 2 years and created historical moments along the way , wish you nothing but the best”.
