Luton defenders Reuell Walters and Joe Johsnon have both been selected for England youth team matches next month

Walters has been named in Paul Nevin’s England men’s (under-20s) Elite League squad  for the double-header against Turkey and Romania in September.

The Hatters made the 19-year-old their second summer signing after he turned down a new contract at Arsenal in order to get more game time in senior football. He has appeared in all four of Town’s games in the league and cup this campaign.

Walters has represented England and under-18 and under-19 level and he made his Elite League squad debut in March during a 3–1 win away to Czechia.

New interim boss of the Young Lions, Nevin, will take Walters and co to Istanbul to play Turkey on Friday 6 September (5pm BST) before hosting Romania at Edgeley Park, Stockport the following Tuesday (7pm BST).

Johnson, a Luton Town Academy product, has been selected for the first time for England Under-19 duty, having played in the 2023 under-17 World Cup and then earning caps for the under-18s in the Tri-Nations tournament earlier this year.

The 19-year-old has been selected by the Young Lions head coach, and briefly back in 2011 a former Luton player, Will Antwi.

Johnson made two Premier League appearance last season and made his first senior start in this season’s Championship opener against Burnley.

He’ll be in the England squad for three friendlies against Italy (September 4), Croatia (September 7) and Germany (September 10), all out in Croatia.

Also getting an international call-up is Luton goalkeeper Thomas Kaminski who has been selected for Belgium’s UEFA Nations League fixtures against Israel and France.
