Luton Town defender Christ Makosso has joined Championship side Oxford United on loan until the end of the season as he looks to secure regular football in the second half of the campaign.
The 21-year-old Congo international signed for the Hatters during the winter transfer window last season from Belgian second-tier club RWD Molenbeek and went on to make 13 Championship appearances as Luton battled relegation.
This season Makosso has featured 11 times in League One and made a further four appearances in the Vertu Trophy, but has found opportunities limited under current manager Jack Wilshere.
The loan move sees Makosso reunite with former Luton boss Matt Bloomfield, now in charge at Oxford, with the U’s fighting to climb out of the Championship relegation zone during the run-in.
Oxford are bottom of the table and short on defensive numbers, offering Makosso the chance to play regularly at Championship level while continuing his development.
The deal runs until the end of the season, with the defender expected to gain valuable experience before returning to Kenilworth Road in the summer.
