Mengi in Torino talks as Luton eye transfer deals for Norwich, Leicester and AIK stars, say reports

Luton defender Teden Mengi looks set to leave for Serie A side Torino before the transfer window shuts with reports that talks are under way. 

The 22-year-old joined the Hatters last summer from Manchester United and became one of the stand-out stars of their first ever Premier League campaign, making 30 top flight appearances.

Mengi was absent from Town’s squad on Tuesday as they suffered a 4-1 Carabao Cup penalty shootout defeat at QPR and the centre back has this summer been linked with Wolverhampton Wanderers, plus French Ligue 1 outfits Lens and Nice.

And now, journalist and renowned transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has delivered news of a potential switch to Italy. 

Posting on his X account (formerly Twitter), the Italian writer said: “Negotiations underway between Torino and Luton Town for Teden Mengi as new defender. Personal terms close to being agreed as Mengi has picked new agents, now represented by Enhance Sports Group.”

Turin newspaper La Stampa are reporting that a deal could be a loan with an option to buy for around €5-6million.

Luton look set for a busy final few days of the transfer window which shuts on Friday night, after they host QPR in the Championship. 

Chiedozie Orbene has already departed to join Premier League new boys Ipswich in an £8million move, while there have been rumours of a £10million interest from Leicester City in keeper Thomas Kaminski.

As for incomings, the Hatters have been linked with moves for Norwich City winger Abu Kamara, with a reported offer being table in the region of £2.5m for the 21-year-old, who is also wanted by Hull City. Town have also been linked with a £6million bid for Leicester City striker Tom Cannon.

And reports in Sweden claim that Luton have agreed a £4million (50million Krona) deal to sign Spanish midfielder Lamine Fanne from Swedish side AIK, though the 20-year-old would remain in Stockholm until the end of the Allsvenskan top-flight campaign on November 10, moving to Kenilworth Road in January. Fanne is reported to be flying to the country today to undergo an medical. 

Expressen writer Anel Avdić posted on X yesterday: “AIK and Luton Town FC agree a transfer for Lamine Fanne. Luton pays just over 50 million, and including all bonuses, the value of the deal can rise to almost 70 million. Fan Flies to London tomorrow, but finishes the season in AIK.”
