George Moncur still has a “massive” part to play in Luton’s Championship run-in, but it’s likely to be as an impact substitute says manager Nathan Jones.
The midfielder has only sampled 15 minutes of football in the first match since the restart, when he replaced Izzy Brown in the 1-1 draw against Preston North End.
Brown has injured his Achilles and there are question marks over whether the Chelsea loan ace will return for the final four games of the campaign.
The first of those is a trip to face Huddersfield in a must-win relegation six-pointer and asked if Moncur – who has made just 18 appearances this term – has a part still to play, Jones said: “Massive. I signed George. I really like George, it’s just the time we put him in.
“If we’re chasing anything then George is one you could go to. At the minute, we haven’t been chasing stuff.
“At Leeds, we were in front. Swansea, we were in front. When we were chasing stuff against Preston, we brought him on, and he had a big impact.
“We’ve scored first in pretty much three of the five games and when we did chase it Reading were out of sight, so it was very difficult there.
“But, no, he’s got a massive part to play. He’s a great character and that’s why we bought him. For him it’s about keeping the faith, trusting and being ready for his opportunity.”
