Morris pleased VAR ‘saw sense’ over his late leveller at Burnley

Carlton Morris was relieved that VAR saw “sense” as his late injury time header was not ruled out, helping Luton to a big point against relegation rivals Burnley.

Zeki Amdouni gave the Clarets a first half lead, despite a more dominant display from the Hatters.

But at the break, Town weren’t as effective and looked on course to lose to the Lancashire side for a second time this term.

But two minutes into time added on, Alfie Doughty hung up a big cross that Morris nodded in for his first goal since September.

But he was made to wait a long time to have it confirmed by VAR after his strike partner Elijah Adebayo and home keeper James Trafford collided in the penalty area.

Morris said: “To be honest, I’ve seen a couple of them and I think, obviously goalkeepers are going to get protection. It was a bit soft but I’m just pleased we saw sense on this one because it’s never been a foul.

“The big fella (Adebayo) has just out-jumped him and I’m glad he did because it gave me a great chance at goal.”

Morris has had to make do with cameo appearances from the substitutes’ bench in the last six Premier League games, but he has made an impact in each of the last two away days, forcing two winning own goals at Sheffield United and ending a 14-game goal drought at Turf Moor.

“When needs must, put two big fellas up top and we’ll cause a bit of carnage. I’m just pleased to be on the end of it,” said the 30-year-old said of his fourth goal this term.

“I thought the lads were different class in the first half. We definitely deserved something, if not all three points out of the game.

“The performance from the lads was brilliant. We dug in and that shows character and what we’re about.

The draw keeps a four-point between Burnley at the bottom of the league and draws Town level with Everton, leaving them in the drop zone due to goal difference.

Being interviewed alongside man of the match Ross Barkley, Morris told TNT Sports: “It’s crucial to keep up momentum, I think. The lads have been brilliant, performances-wise recently. We had the two wins as well before Chelsea and we were brilliant in the Chelsea game as well.

“I think we’ve put on a decent performance today, but to come away with something when we were down and out and one point, is the character I’m talking about and that’s what it takes and a talented lad like this one (Barkley) to keep us up.”
