Music review: Favourite Thing / Royalty by JW Paris

JW Paris

Part banger, part living embodiment of a Steve Jobs philosophy, Favourite Thing sees JW Paris recognise that ‘people don’t know what they want until you show it to them’.

“We are your favourite thing and you can’t stop this, just think again” acts as a cruise-missile mantra to convert you to their cult of cool.

A call to arms, a manifesto, call it what you will, the Luton duo know that, ordinarily, in this post-truth paradise, if you say something enough times, it becomes truth.

But they need not repeat themselves because, “Ba-Ba-Bada”, they’ll have you even before the first refrain.

Such is their ever-growing power to make ears bend to their will that, in the week they released sneak previews of their forthcoming new single, Royalty, Megxit happened.

Coincidence? They say it’s not a protest song about the House of Windsor splitters, but you do the math.

All rise, these crown princes and heirs to the throne of lashed-up lovelorn us-against-the-world midnight sing-a-longs, catchier than coronavirus.

To resist is treason, and that, peasants, is a royal decree.
