Muskwe: I haven’t shown totally what I’m capable of but there’s more to come

Admiral Muskwe has promised that there’s more to come form him in a Hatters shirt after starting to show why the club signed him from Leicester in the summer.

The 23-year-old is yet to score in 13 Championship appearances, but boss Nathan Jones has said he’s been “quite frightening” in training. And against Fulham on December 11 he put in one of his best performances in a Town shirt.

But little did anyone know at that stage that the 1-1 draw against the promotion hopefuls would be the last game the Hatters would play before a surge in Covid cases hit them and rival clubs, leading to Luton’s Christmas programme being postponed.

While Luton are preparing to return to action after a month away, by hosting Harrogate in the FA Cup third round on Saturday, the Muskwe will join the Zimbabwe squad in Cameroon ahead of their African Cup of Nations opener against favourites Senegal on Monday.

The forward will become the first Hatter ever to play in the competition if selected by the Warriors, and he’s hoping to show supporters what he can do.

“I think there’s definitely a lot more to come,” he said, adding: “I haven’t shown totally what I’m capable of and I’ll continue to improve and become a better player and show what I can do, there is more to come and I’m going to show that for sure.”

Muskwe will be at the African Cup of Nations until at least January 18th when Zimbabwe play Guinea in their final Group B game, which will see him miss at least the next three Luton clashes, but that could extend to more if the Warriors reach the knockout stages.

When he does return, Muskwe said: “Hopefully I can continue the vein of form I was beginning to show. I’m not the only one who hasn’t been playing, it’s been the rest of the team as well, so we’re all in the same boat, so it’s all OK I guess. (I’ll) come back and hopefully kick on from there.”

But despite his stop-start beginnings at Luton, he’s positive he’s at the right club.

“I’m very happy to have made the move,” Muskwe said, adding: “I think when I first moved in the summer I reiterated it was the perfect fit for myself and the club and maybe I haven’t got off to the start I would have wanted, picked up a little niggles, few injuries here and there, but everyone’s been great.

“The staff are great, everyone around the place is great, the boys are great, the fans are great, so I don’t have a bad word to say about Luton, it’s a great place to be and hopefully I can repay the fans and the faith the club have shown in me once I’m back from the African Cup of Nations.”

Last month, Jones said: “For Addy, it’s been frustrating because we didn’t have him for the full pre-season, so we haven’t yet seen the best of Addy.

“We’ve seen it in training, because in training he’s been quite frightening, we haven’t seen that in games yet and that’s because he hasn’t really had a run.

“We saw real glimpses of it against Barnsley I think and then he picked up something, but when he really does hit a head of steam, we’ve got really high hopes for him because in training, at times he’s unplayable.”

Muskwe added: “With every game, every day, every training session, it’s all about adding a little bit more to your game, developing as a player, tactically, technically, physically, and I feel like I’ve come along way in that sense but maybe I haven’t quite shown it on the pitch just yet, but I’m looking to do that very soon.

“I’m still only 23 which in football terms is young, very young in fact, I’ve got a lot of learning to do, but I’m always wanting to learn and I think I’ll just continue learning every day.”
