Luton singer-songwriter Myles Smith has crashed into the Official Top 10 chart with his hit single Stargazing as his popularity continues to soar in what he has described as a “wild year”.
It’s already been quite the year for Smith who made his first ever festival appearance on home soil at BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend in Stockwood Park in May – where he and his band wore Hatters football shirts – after selling out shows in his his first-ever headline tour across the UK, Europe and north America.
After releasing his debut EP, ‘You Promised A Lifetime’ in March, containing the previous singles ‘Solo’ and ‘My Home’, the 26-year-old has performed on the BBC’s flagship music show Later With Jools Holland and later this month is due to make his debut at Glastonbury Festival.
And his dedicated fanbase has seen him amass over 1 million followers on both Instagram and TikTok and over 27 million monthly listeners on Spotify.
But after being released on May 19, his latest single ‘Stargazing’ has been rising up the charts and today (June 3) smashed into the coveted Top 10 for the first time.
“It’s been a wild year,” Smith told officialcharts.com, adding: “I had my first headline tour in the UK, Europe and North America. It was a pretty wild start to the year to play these songs that I’ve been writing for the last year to fans for the first time.
“To have such support from everywhere has been super overwhelming.”
Smith has over 200 million streams to his name, but he said: “Streaming numbers have always been an add-on, rather than something I focus on,” he explains. “It’s super nice to see it growing, but it’s those moments in person with fans, being able to talk to people and see how your music’s impacted them that gives you ten times the feeling that seeing a million streams does.
“Sometimes when you’re doing music it’s super hard to see where your music’s going, where it’s being listened to, who by and how it translates.
“To hear so many people’s stories, their journeys, how they’re overcoming things, their hardships and how my music’s soundtracked that for them. It’s just, like, wow.”
