Kal Naismith has returned to Luton Town on a permanent deal following his release from Bristol City, becoming Matt Bloomfield’s first signing ahead of the new season.
The 33-year-old defender, who spent the final part of last season on loan at Kenilworth Road, has signed on a free transfer after leaving Ashton Gate.
Now he’s back under new boss Bloomfield, who has backed the experienced defender, who was named player of the season during his last permanent contract with the club, to make a big impact.
“It’s really important that Kal is signing for us,” Bloomfield told the club’s website. “He’s an incredibly well-respected figure here and has a fantastic history with our football club.
“He’s going to be a real leader for us in the dressing room and on the pitch, he has got lots of quality and a great left foot.
“Above all, he has fantastic organisational and leadership skills and he’s going to play an integral part on and off the pitch for us next season.”
Naismith latest loan spell took his total to 78 appearances for the Hatters. The Scot first joined Luton in January 2021 and played a key role in the 2021-22 campaign, helping the side reach the play-offs with 45 appearances and a dramatic last-minute winner against Bournemouth, before he made the move to Bristol City.
