Luton Town manager Rob Edwards has signed a new four-year contract until 2028, saying it was “never in doubt”.
Edwards has been loosely linked to other jobs after the Hatters were relegated from the Premier League, but the new deal confirms his focus on returning Town to the top flight after last term’s relegation from the Premier League.
“I’m really pleased,” said Edwards. “It’s been the best 18 months of my professional career, we’ve had so much fun. There’s been ups and, let’s be honest, downs too. But I feel really excited to extend our stay.
“It was never in doubt, but it’s great that we are all on the same page here and we know where we want to be now we’ve all had a taste of it.
“I feel really motivated to get us going again, and to be honest, I said this after West Ham and I know it’s still quite raw because it doesn’t seem that long ago, but the supporters did their talking for us immediately after that game. From then, all that’s been in my head is ‘Right, we’ve got to repay that’.
“We all know the Championship, what a challenge it is, and yes, it is going to be a really difficult year, but also a really exciting one. I’m just delighted.”
Edwards, who joined Luton in 2022 after being sacked by arch-rivals Watford 10 games into his Hornets tenure, said: “We’ve got owners and a board that back their manager and staff..
“It’s great to have more security and a long-term outlook on things, because we are growing this football club. That’s what’s happening here.
“We’ve taken a hit, but I feel – and I think everyone is the same – that we are still on this upward trajectory.
“That’s where we are going and it’s great that Gary (Sweet, CEO) and the board feel that we are the right people to continue that for a long, long time.”
Sweet told the club’s website: “The board and I are delighted that Rob has committed his long-term future to the Club. We have all loved watching the progress the team has made under his leadership.
“Usually with relegation comes wholesale change, but we do things differently at Luton Town and can see progression.
“Securing Rob has been our main target since the season ended because it enables that continued growth both on and off the pitch. The length of contract brings stability to everyone who works around him, including the players.
“It is a great cultural fit. He simply gets Luton both as a club and as a town, he’s been the perfect ambassador.
“From the boardroom to supporters, to Rob and his staff, we share equal ambition and everyone is excited by this fantastic development.”
