Lasse Nordås has completed a loan move from Luton Town to Dutch Eredivisie side SC Heerenveen until the end of the season, bringing a temporary halt to a challenging first year in English football for the Norwegian striker.

Reports from Norway also reported an interest from Championship side Wrexham, but the 23-year-old has opted for a return to continental football instead.

The loan agreement is now officially complete, with Nordås joining a Heerenveen side currently sitting ninth in the Eredivisie ahead of the Dutch league’s return next weekend following the winter break.

Heerenveen technical manager Johan Hansma believes the striker will add a different dimension to their attack, telling the club’s website: “Lasse is a physically strong, left-footed striker, 1.94 meters tall. He’s strong both on the ground and in the air, a true team player, and has a good sense of positioning in the penalty area. We’re pleased to add an attacking boost to the squad with him.”

Nordås signed for the Hatters last January from Tromsø after netting nine goals and four assists from 28 Eliteserien (Norway’s top flight) appearances convinced Luton to swoop.

The fee was officially undisclosed but, at the time, Norwegian outlet VG reported it to be at least 40 million kroner (around £2.8million), with TV2 this week claiming the figure was closer to 35 million kroner (approximately £2.5million). It was, however, one of the largest transfers in Tromsø’s history.

Nordås went on to make 10 Championship appearances following his arrival in Bedfordshire but struggled to establish himself as Town were relegated. His opportunities remained limited this season in League One, first under manager Matt Bloomfield and then Jack Wilshere, despite flashes of promise in the cup competitions.

He scored his first Luton goal in the 3-0 League One win at Burton Albion in August and departs having netted four times in 17 appearances in all competitions this term, three of those coming in the Vertu Trophy. League minutes were harder to come by, leaving him largely on the periphery of the first team picture.
