Luton town centre will come alive this summer with a packed programme of free events, outdoor entertainment and exclusive offers running from now until the end of August.

Between 30 June and 31 August, Hat Gardens, Market Hill and St George’s Square will host a wide range of activities aimed at families, shoppers and visitors of all ages. Highlights include live screenings of Wimbledon, cricket and the women’s Euros, open-air cinema by the River Lea, live music performances, fitness sessions, and interactive children’s activities.

“With more to do, and more to enjoy, there’s never been a better time to visit,” said Luton Councillor James Taylor, portfolio holder for regeneration and inclusive growth. “We’re proud to offer a vibrant, fun and safe summer in the heart of Luton. The town centre is also a fantastic place to shop, with exciting new brands opening at Luton Point and even more on the way.

“We understand that safety is a top concern for many, and we want to reassure everyone that we’re committed to maintaining a secure, welcoming environment for all.”

Access to the town has also been made more affordable, with £1 evening bus fares and £1 parking in council-operated car parks.

The events are being supported by the Safer Streets Summer initiative, a partnership between Bedfordshire Police, the Police and Crime Commissioner and the council. The scheme will include more visible patrols, extended hours for town centre services, and a focus on tackling anti-social behaviour and promoting safety, particularly at night.

The full summer programme is available at luton.gov.uk/summer-in-town.
