Last-gasp defeat at Cardiff hasn’t dampened Matty Pearson’s excitement for Luton’s first season in the Championship for 12 years – especially after Town’s transfer deadline business.
The Hatters made three season-long loans, signing James Bree from Aston Villa, Izzy Brown from Chelsea and Luke Bolton from Manchester City to take their tally of new recruits up to ten, including the return of Kazenga LuaLua.
Defender Pearson, who scored in Saturday’s 2-1 Championship defeat, was one of the new faces last summer and Luton went on to break records on their way to the title.
Asked about the three Premier League signing, the centre back said: “We did exactly the same last year. We got bodies in, good quality players and we’ve done the same this year. We’ve got some good quality players who can all improve the squad. I’m excited. I can’t wait for the whole season.
“We’ve got a great group and everyone’s really honest and down to earth, so I’m looking forward to the rest of the season.”
Town are yet to win on their return to the Championship with a 3-3 thriller to open their campaign against Middlesbrough and then the heartbreaking end to their trip to the Welsh capital.
Pearson said: “From an outsider looking in, I don’t think we’ve been terrible, We’re more than capable, we’ve scored goals and it’s just the fine detail that we need to get right.
“At the minute, we’re all down aren’t we? But I’m sure, looking back at the game, when we get the good clips on and scoring goals, like we have been, I’m sure we’ll be fine.”
Luton Now turn their attention to tomorrow night’s Carabao Cup visit of Ipswich to Kenilworth Road.
