Luton Town have added proven firepower to their attack with the signing of experienced striker Nahki Wells.

Announced in a triple signing along with Nigel Lonwijk and Hakeem Odoffin, the 35-year-old forward arrives with 174 goals in English football since making the move from Bermuda to Carlisle United in 2010. Wells joins the Hatters after five-and-a-half years at Bristol City, where he scored 48 times in 237 appearances and played a part in helping the Robins reach the Championship play-offs last season.

Luton manager Matt Bloomfield is confident the Bermudian international will bring quality and leadership to the squad, telling the club’s website: “Nahki is a proven goalscorer, has fantastic experience and good leadership too.

“He’s someone with extreme know-how and a real desire to still go and score goals, a real desire to go and achieve something and a real desire to be a part of what we are building.

“He is someone who is so highly thought of in the world of football. Some of the references I had about him were just incredible. Someone who is obviously really well-known and liked within the game, highly respected and someone with a real know-how in the penalty area, which is what we’re really pleased to be bringing into the building.”

Wells enjoyed prolific spells earlier in his career with Bradford City and Huddersfield Town, scoring 53 goals in 112 games for the Bantams – including a League Two play-off triumph in 2013 – before going on to hit 49 in 152 matches for the Terriers. His goals helped fire Huddersfield to Premier League promotion via the play-offs in 2017.

After a frustrating time at Burnley, the forward rediscovered his scoring touch on loan at QPR with 20 Championship goals, before establishing himself as a reliable and consistent presence at Ashton Gate.
