Luton are getting a striker who is better than his goal return suggests, one football pundit has said as the Hatters confirmed a deal for Tromsø ace Lasse Nordås.
Reports from the 22-year-old’s native Norway, have said that the frontman has agreed a four-year deal with the Hatters, with news outlet VG saying that it is understood to be at leas 40 million kroner (£2.8million), though the fee has been officially declared as ‘undisclosed’.
It has also been reported that Italian side Cagliari were keen on Nordås but, over the weekend, Tromsø said that one of the “biggest transfers in the club’s history” was in the making with their man heading to a Championship club, while Norwegian journalist Stian André de Wahl clarified that Luton were that team. Renowned transfer specialist journalist Fabrizio Romano then also confirmed the rumour.
Speaking ahead of transfer deadline day about the rumoured deals that Town have been linked with, the Luton Town Supporters’ Trust Podcast offered some insight on Nordås.
The 6ft 4ins forward netted nine times in 28 Eliteserien games for a Tromsø team that only scored 34 times in their last Norwegian top-flight campaign, which ended in December. In comparison, the division’s top scorer was Molde’s Kristian Eriksen, with 14 goals.
Nordås also scored twice in four Europa Conference League games in that campaign, including one against Scottish side Kilmarnock.
Recalling a conversation between him and the the Nordic Football Podcast co-host, Steve Wyss, the Hatters’ fan show host, Kevin Harper, said he was told Luton are: “’Getting a good centre forward, who’s got a range of improvement in him and probably better than the bare goal statistics’.”
Harper added: “He’s in a league and a club that don’t score too many goals, so in our league, you’d expect him to score more goals, so that’s promising.”
And Nordås has expressed his desire to hit the ground running and start scoring goals for the Hatters.
He joins a side still in the Championship relegation zone, but who have been active in the January transfer market, bringning to Kenilworth Road seven other players, including four signed last week.
Thelo Aasgaard, a fellow Norwegian youth international, made his full debut at Sheffield Wednesday, while Josh Bowler, Millenic Alli and Kal Naismith all came off the bench as Town drew 1-1 at Hillsborough to stop the rot of 12 away-day defeats on the spin.
Isiah Jones, signed from Middlesbrough, missed out on Saturday due to a family matter, while Christ Makosso, signed from Molenbeek, has been with the Under-21s. But Lamine Fanne – who Luton signed from Swedish side AIK in the summer, but loaned him back until the end of their season – completed his first 90 minutes for the Hatters at the weekend in Sheffield.
