Luton Town midfielder Tom Krauß could be set to return to Germany, with a report suggesting the 23-year-old is on the verge of having his season-long loan at Luton terminated so he can join Bundesliga side VfL Bochum.
Krauß came to Kenilworth Road from FSV Mainz 05 at the start of the season and made a delayed debut in late September after suffering an ankle injury before his move to the Hatters was finalised. Since then, he has made 23 appearances for Town, contributing two goals, including a stunning strike in last week’s 3-2 defeat at Oxford United.
But Bochum-based football journalist Philipp Rentsch claims the midfielder has already agreed to a loan move back to Germany for the rest of the campaign.
“VfL Bochum has finally found what it was looking for in terms of reinforcements,” Rentsch wrote on X, adding: “The club will soon announce the signing of Tom Krauß, and the deal is about to be completed. The 23-year-old will be loaned from FSV Mainz 05 until the end of the season.”
In a second post, he added: “Krauß is to expand the options in central midfield. The loan with Luton Town is ended early. Advantage: Krauß was a regular in England’s second division, so he has match experience. In addition: So-called mentality player. He and Hecking know each other from Nuremberg.”
Yesterday, Luton signed Thelo Aasgaard from Wigan and former player of the year Kal Naismith returned on loan from Bristol, which has pushed Town’s squad one player over the 25-man squad limit. New manager Matt Bloomfield has indicated that there will be players leaving before the window shuts on February 3, so an early end to Krauß’s stay could ease the squad registration issue.
