Rob Edwards has revealed that a hamstring injury has dealt a blow to Albert Sambi Lokonga after the Arsenal loan midfielder revealed on Instagram that he’d be sidelined for a couple of months.

The Belgian’s post came before last night’s Carabao Cup shock exit at Exeter, while Tom Lockyer didn’t travel to Devon due to a similar issue.

The 23-year-old wrote: “I thought it was my time to enjoy playing this beautiful game called football and work hard helping my teammates to reach our goal as a team…

“Unfortunately, an injury came to delay everything.

“I’ll be focused on my recovery and support the team during that time.

“See you in a couples of month [sic].

“God is good all the time.”

Now Town will be without the impressive youngster for the big Premier League clash at Everton on Saturday and Edwards told the club’s website: “Unfortunately, Sambi injured his hamstring in the game on Saturday and that’s why he came off. He’s going to be out for a few months now, we think.

“It’s really disappointing first of all for him. He’s come because he wants to play and he made a really good first impression. He’s first couple of games were excellent, our two best performances so far in the league, against Fulham and Wolves.

“So it’s really disappointed for him but we’ll support him now and do all we can to hopefully get him back quickly and strong and back with us. But it was a really disappointing one for him.”

Speaking to the BBC, Edwards added: “With us missing Sambi, then we couldn’t take a risk on Marv, hence why he wasn’t involved tonight. Locks was having a scan today, he was just feeling something. It’s shouldn’t be too bad.

“We’re missing a couple of important players in the squad, in the group, I’m not saying they would’ve started the game anyway, but Sambi’s made a real positive start to his life at Luton Town with two really good performances.”
