ScreamingMechanicalBrain have re-written the murder ballad with their brooding new single, ‘Cardboard Hand Me Downs’ – a spellbinding epic which will put chills up your spine and a flame in your soul.

Prepare to take an immersive, vivid voyage, upon swathes of atmospherics and cinematic sonics on this reimagined version of the Luton rockers’ debut, released on hometown label Vandalism Begins at Home Records.

Singer Nik Scott said: “The concept of a “cardboard hand me down” has dual meanings. On one hand, it’s a metaphor for currency and how our lives seem to rotate around pieces of paper that get handed around. But it’s also about poor friendships, where you feel like all you get handed is the leftover rubbish from someone, once they’ve given out all the good times and attention to those they consider more important”.

This incarnation of ‘Cardboard Hand Me Downs’ dials up the intensity, discovering an all new lease of life and identity.

Scott added: “We wanted a studio version that reflected the way Rich (Davies – bass) plays the song live, with the subtle changes he’s added to make the song feel more like his style.  In addition, our producer Tim Kramer wanted a crack at doing a full remix as his mixing style has altered in the last couple of years.  The result is a mix that feels like it has a lot more in common with our last single, ‘Connie Was A Reptile,’ while still keeping the moody overtones of the original.”

Keep your eyes peeled for a ScreamingMechanicalBrain music and live session video to follow, exploring further depths of the band, along with live performances including July 27 at Summer Assembly, The Castle, Luton.
