Andrew Shinnie revealed he’d been working on his shooting in training before hitting a stunning winner to sink Huddersfield on Saturday.
The 2-1 win was Town’s first at home in the Championship this season and came after the Terriers had taken the lead early in the second half through Karlan Grant.
James Collins then won and converted a spot-kick before Shinnie curled one in from 22 yards, moments after missing the top corner by inches with another blast.
Asked what he was thinking as he lined up the shot, Shinnie said: “I hope this goes in!
“I just swung my left foot at it. My right side is stronger but I feel confident, I’ve been working on it in training. They gaffer will do a lot of finishing at the end of sessions and I’ve felt quite good this week.
“The first one I just put my laces through and it was close, but that one, when I came inside, those ones where you try to bend in the near corner, if you can pull them off it’s hard for the goalie to get across to that. Luckily, I placed it perfectly and it went in.
“We work on both sides. We do a lot of finishing with the manager from those sorts of areas, the midfielders and the strikers, because we get into those positions a lot, it’s just about being ruthless and having shots.
“If you don’t shoot, you’re not going to score. I had a couple of shot and one went in, so I’ll just keep doing that as the season goes.”
And the midfielder also revealed that, during half time, Luton identified a Huddersfield weakness, saying: “I felt the wider players in the diamonds had a bit more room when the ball’s on their side.
“We said at half time, if we can get the ball out, there’s space. The ball came out to me and I was looking to see if Luke (Bolton) was overlapping me, but he was a bit caught behind.
“I just thought I’d come back inside and the full back just left me to come inside, I just had a shot and it hit the net.”
It ensured Luton’s first Championship win at home since 2007, and their second on the spin after beat Barnsley 3-1 at Oakwell last weekend.
Shinnie said: “We really wanted to win this weekend after getting a first win last weekend. We wanted to bounce on in the league and put another three points on. It’s a brilliant win.
“We think we’ve got a really good team, really resilient and good characters in the group. We learned from West Brom. We came out slowly and they punished us 2-1 and we couldn’t get back into the game.
“Unfortunately, it was a decent goal from them (Huddersfield). A decent one-two and the ball flashed across, which is always dangerous, but we responded well. We didn’t go into our shells, got the goal back from the penalty, got 2-1 and then managed the game fairly well.”
