Lutonian singer-songwriter Sarah Kelly of SK & the Kings has been picked to play Latitude Festival later this month on the back of launching her debut EP, ‘Over’.
The past few years has SK has been honing her craft and working tirelessly with her band, the Kings and she sold out a hometown show at The Bear Club to celebrate the release of the record.
Born and raised in the town and brought up on her family’s vinyl collection, SK seamlessly blends the warm textures of soul, jazz and R&B, weaving together rich and emotional lyrics with soulful vocals backed by her talented band, the Kings.
With support and airplay from both BBC Introducing and BBC Radio 1, 2023 saw SK take the stage at renowned venues such as Pizza Express Live, and captivate crowds as the headliner at Jodie Bryant’s Discover Live.
SK & the Kings have kept up the momentum into 2024, supporting Lucy Rose at The Ned Parlour, as well as performing at BBC Radio 1 DJ Honor Morrison’s Good Vibes Only new music night.
That will have brought SK & The Kings to the attention of the Beeb and they have just announcing a place on the bill at Latitude Festival on the BBC Introducing stage. Posting on her Instagram page, SK wrote: ‘I can finally tell you that I’m going to be playing @latitudefest (!) WHAT ✨IS ✨HAPPENING
‘I cannot wait to bring the whole band and blow you away at one of my favourite festivals in the UK 😮💨 (yes we’re going ALL OUT)’
The band will be able to showcase tracks from new EP ‘Over’ which was released on Friday (July 12). Featuring singles, ‘Adored’ and ‘Tears’, SK said of the EP on her Facebook page: ‘This has been a long time coming and I can’t express how much love and time and care and patience and hard fucking work has gone into every one of these songs because I truly mean every word. I have poured every inch of myself into this EP and I feel like ‘Adored’ is the best re-introduction to the artist I am today.
‘I have had such a joyful experience working with the most incredible artists on this project and I am so grateful to each and every one of you for sharing your talent and time and dedication with me. It means more than I can say.
‘I know I sound like I’m accepting an award but it’s an absolute bop and I am so proud of it. And I feel quite proud of myself too, which is really nice after such a long time of walking with my eyes closed.’
