Luton will take centre stage in Missing The Ferry’s latest release, and before the song and the full music video drops this weekend, we can reveal a sneak peek at some exclusive images from the shoot.
The photographs, captured during filming last year, reveal a proudly homegrown production that places the town’s pubs, streets and personalities firmly in the spotlight.
Countless outsider media features have proclaimed Luton, “one of the UK’s worst towns”. Not in the eyes of Missing The Ferry!
Tired of lazy journalism and cliched labelling, ‘Luton You’re A Lady’ is the second generation Irish band’s musical defence to the haters and an unapologetic love letter to the town. Always defending their home when playing gigs elsewhere, Missing The Ferry decided to pen an ode to Luton celebrating all the things that make it such a wonderful place.
The track weaves together references to Hightown, Farley Hill, the River Lea, the Arndale Market and Marsh Farm, alongside nods to Luton Town football legend Ricky Hill and the Exodus Collective.
But it is the collaborative spirit behind the visuals that stands out in these exclusive images. The video celebrates all the wonderful things Luton has to offer too – including a few pints in the town’s beautiful pubs along the way. Look out for The Painter’s Arms, The Castle and The George II, to name just a few.
The band will admit that Luton is far from perfect with its challenges and some economic poverty but are also keen to stress the town’s cultural riches beyond compare!
And for Missing the Ferry, Luton is a town of many colours with a heart of gold… or maybe orange!
‘Luton You’re A Lady‘ the single is released on Valentine’s Day (Saturday 14 February) via Luton-based label Vandalism Begins at Home Records, with the accompanying music video given a special premiere at The Four Horsehoes pub on Park Street, this Sunday (February 15) from 5pm.
The party will be complete with live performances from the band themselves, Ryan Prazer and a DJ set from Vandalism’s Ben Barry, but those that can’t make that shindig, can watch the video on YouTube when it premieres at 8pm on Sunday, 15 February.
Luton filmmakers Two Sides Studios – the brothers behind the Orange Weekend documentary – and Alleged Productions have collaborated to shape the final cut, which includes familiar local faces, such as Luton’s Deadpool, reinforcing the sense that this is a project built by Lutonians, for Lutonians.
Missing The Ferry founder member, singer and mandolin player Paul Anderson sums up the band’s feelings in typically direct fashion, saying: “Luton you’re one feckin’ lady and we love ya!”
Here are some behind the scenes snaps of the people and places in the music video…
Speaking about the video, Jas Nangla from Two Sides Studios, said: ‘We have been working with Missing the Ferry since 2024, for Vandalism Begins At Home’s Live Sessions. This is when we first heard the song, ‘Luton You’re a Lady’. It was a banger back then and it’s been a journey hearing it being played live at various gigs over the year. The track developed and changed as time went on and the version we have today is certainly the best it could be.
‘We previously worked with Missing the Ferry for their previous single ‘The Dalston Railway Tavern‘ and we’re excited to be apart of ‘Luton You’re A Lady’ as well. I have to mention Kelli Watson of Alleged Productions, who’s been so instrumental in bringing this absolute classic to life! We can’t wait for everyone in Luton and beyond to see this masterpiece and we can’t wait to see what else is in store for Missing the Ferry.”
Kelli Watson of Alleged Productions added: “I’m chuffed to be able to work with Missing the Ferry on the ‘Luton You’re A Lady’ music video. It’s a great way to celebrate the wonderful place that we live in and the people that make it so special.”
The full video lands on Sunday evening, but these exclusive images already make one thing clear: this is not just a song about Luton. It is Luton, on screen, in its own words.
