Planned strike action by staff at Leonardo’s Luton site has been suspended after the defence and aerospace company put forward an improved pay offer following last-minute talks with union officials.
Unite members at the Capability Green factory were due to join colleagues at other Leonardo sites across the UK in walking out on Tuesday in protest over what they described as a below-inflation pay offer.
The union has now called off tomorrow’s strike to allow its members to vote on the new proposal, although further action later this month remains possible if the offer is rejected.
Unite national officer Rhys McCarthy said: “As an act of good faith, Unite has suspended tomorrow’s strike action to allow a ballot of our members to take place. The threat of action has brought Leonardo back to the table with a new and improved offer and we will now consult our members.”
If workers reject the offer, strike action at the Luton site is scheduled for 12 and 13 November.
