The Summer Sounds live music series is set to return to Luton town centre alongside expanded fitness activities.
Selected Saturdays will see free live music light up the Hat Gardens, featuring:
- Saturday 21 June, 12 to 1.30pm – Reggae Ray Hue will perform reggae favourites, bringing Caribbean rhythms to the heart of Luton.
- Saturday 5 July, 12 to 2pm – Rob Mach, accomplished saxophonist, will deliver summer jazz sounds perfect for a weekend afternoon.
- Saturday 16 August, 12 to 1.45pm – Local favourite Yvonne Michéle makes her return, bringing her powerful blend of soul and gospel music.
The programme extends beyond music with the return of ‘Morning Yoga at Hat Gardens’. Sessions begin Tuesday 29 July and continue every Tuesday from 8am to 8.45am until 2 September. These sessions are suitable for ages 16 and above and offer the chance to practice gentle morning yoga with a qualified instructor by the River Lea.
Additionally, St George’s Square will host new community boxing fitness sessions called ‘Fitness in the Square’. These fun, challenging workouts for ages 16+ will take place every Wednesday evening from 23 July to 27 August, 5.30pm to 6.30pm.
Details of a family-friendly programme will be announced soon, featuring free activities designed specifically for children and parents throughout the summer months.
Councillor James Taylor, Portfolio Holder for Regeneration and Inclusive Growth at Luton Council, said: “These events are great way to get people using our town centre in new ways and help create a vibrant, welcoming atmosphere for everyone. And this is just the beginning – we have an extensive family-friendly programme that we’ll be announcing in the coming weeks.”
Cllr Taylor added: “Over the last 12 months, we’ve delivered more than 40 days of council-run events in Luton town centre, with our activation programme going from strength to strength. Our events programme is part of our wider regeneration plan for the town centre, alongside our transformation programme and improved safety measures being put into place to instil confidence in visiting our town centre.”
