New Luton Town striker signing Callum Marshall says he finally feels he has found somewhere to call home after completing his permanent move from West Ham United.
The Northern Ireland international has signed a long-term deal at Kenilworth Road after leaving the Hammers, ending a spell in which he gained experience on loan at West Bromwich Albion, Huddersfield Town and German side Bochum.
Rather than another temporary move, Marshall says putting down permanent roots was one of the biggest attractions of joining the Hatters.
“It feels great to get the deal done,” he told the club’s website during his unveiling at one of the town’s oldest landmarks, Someries Castle.
“I think that Luton are heading in the right direction and all the meetings I’ve had with Jack [Wilshere] and the coaching staff, they’ve really made me feel wanted and I like what I’ve been told.”
The 21-year-old admitted Wilshere himself played a major part in convincing him to make the move, with the manager praising his new signing’s “old school” mentality.
“I played against him when he was Arsenal Under-18s coach and that was one of the big drawing points to Luton as well, the fact that Jack’s here,” he said.
“I think he should be good for my career, and he’s a manager I want to work under, so hopefully it goes well this season and we all get what we want.
“I want to be playing regularly, feeling part of something as a team, like we’re going somewhere. So I think this is a great next step for my career and hopefully I can push on.”
Marshall, who has already won 16 senior caps for Northern Ireland, said conversations with his family and advisers helped him realise the importance of finding stability after several loan spells.
Speaking after completing the move, he said: “People around me, like my agent and my dad – people I would speak to for advice – they say, ‘You need to belong somewhere’.
“Whenever you are a loan player, it’s difficult because you’re not their player. I’m used to going somewhere as a visitor for a year.
“So coming here permanently, this is my home now and hopefully I can get settled off the pitch as well as on it.”
Marshall enjoyed a breakthrough campaign at Huddersfield Town during the 2024/25 season, scoring 10 goals in all competitions and being voted the club’s player of the year before gaining further experience in Germany with Bundesliga side Bochum.
He now becomes the latest addition to Wilshere’s squad as the Hatters prepare for the new League One season, hoping to establish himself as Luton’s first-choice striker after years of temporary moves away from his parent club.
