Luton beat other clubs to the transfer deadline day capture of Aston Villa’s Marvelous Nakambe on loan, with assistant boss Paul Trollope believing the midfielder will make a “big impact”.
The Zimbabwean international has European experience with Nancy and Vitesse Arnhem, plus played in the Champions League with Club Brugge before an £11million switch to Birmingham.
But the 29-year-old hasn’t featured for the Villans this term, so he made the move to Kenilworth Road until the end of the season, which could prove quite a coup for the play-off chasing Hatters.
Trollope said of Town’s transfer swoop for Nakambe: “He did have a bit of interest from other parties so we’re really really pleased with that. It’s a level of player that we were looking for, it’s a position we were looking for and his attributes are really complementary to the other players that we’ve got in that position.
“It’s a strong unit for us. We’ve got some really good, talented players, all with good technical, running, athletic abilities and psychological abilities. We’re pleased to have him. He’s going to make a big impact.”
As to whether the defensive midfielder will be available to make his Luton debut on Saturday at home to Stoke, Trollope said: “Physically, we’ll have to assess him in the short-term to make sure his game exposure is right, so that he plays are really big part for the rest of the season.”
