Linus Udofia defended his English middleweight title on the same card that Kay Prosper earned a shot at the British belt in a big night for Luton boxing.

At the York Hall in Bethnal Green, London, Udofia headlined, taking on Southern Area belt holder Constantine Williams, who took the Lutonian the ten-round distance, but it was the two-time national champion who unanimously impressed the judges, though not necessarily himself.

Posting on Instagram, Udofia said: “It was a fantastic fight, the noise was incredible, it was really good. I don’t think it was my best performance. I think I’m levels above what I showed. No excuses.”

Udofia said he will take some time out, but has previously eyed a shot at bigger belts and he said prior to the Williams clash: “This fight fight is more a trampoline to spring me up to British, Commonwealth, European and all the belts in between that open up.

“It’s all about timing but I think another win here really puts me at the top of that list. There’s a lot of people around. Kieron Conway holds the Commonwealth and I think he’s been ordered to fight someone else for the British, so that’s kind of out of contention at the. Minute.

“I think the European is free and all the international titles are free so, after another win here, that puts me right in line to challenge for any one of those.

“It’s kind of a springboard for something else.”

Earlier on in the Goodwin Boxing show, Hockwell Ring puncher Prosper proved victorious on the judges scorecards also as he outpointed Mikey Sakyi in their eliminator for a shot at the super lightweight Lonsdale belt, currently held by Jack Rafferty.

“We strive to do big things in the sport,” Prosper said on Instagram, adding: “hopefully now, having this British title shot we can go on to do some major things.”

The win marked Special K’s second fight after returning from an injury hiatus and puts him back in the mix for the big domestic belts after he became the English champion in 2019 and then lost out to Sandor Martin for the European crown two years later.
