The University of Bedfordshire has been named one of the top 500 universities in Europe in the latest QS Europe University Rankings, marking another milestone for the Luton-based institution.
The rankings place the university 449th in Europe and 93rd in the UK, positioning it alongside some of the continent’s most established higher education providers. University leaders say the result reflects its growing international profile, research strength and focus on student outcomes.
The QS Europe University Rankings assess institutions on measures including academic reputation, employer reputation, research output, learning environment and international engagement. The university’s performance across those areas contributed to its top 500 placing.
Professor Andrew Church, interim vice chancellor at the University of Bedfordshire, said the recognition was a significant moment.
“We are very proud to see the University of Bedfordshire recognised in the QS Europe University Rankings as one of the top 500 universities in Europe,” he said, adding: ” “This recognition reflects the strength of our teaching, the growing impact of our research, and the success of our career-powered education approach. This ranking is an important milestone for us, and it signals clearly that Bedfordshire is a university on the rise.”
The university’s career-powered education model aims to ensure students graduate with practical skills, work experience and industry connections alongside their degrees. This includes placements, employer partnerships and project work built into courses.
The European recognition follows a strong year in domestic league tables. In the Guardian University Guide 2026, the university climbed 19 places overall and ranked among the top 10 in the UK in several subject areas. In the National Student Survey 2025, it was rated first in the region for learning opportunities and second for student voice.
University leaders say they will continue to expand research activity, develop international links and strengthen the student experience as they look to build on the latest ranking success.
