New Luton Town signing Davy van den Berg says he is relishing the challenge of English football after completing a loan move from Utrecht, describing the switch as an opportunity to both learn and contribute as the Hatters push to climb back up the divisions.

The 25-year-old attacking midfielder is playing abroad for the first time in his career and admitted the move, which comes with a conditional obligation to buy, represents a fresh step after several seasons in the Netherlands.

“I’m very excited, it’s the first time playing abroad for me. Let’s see what Luton and England can give to me and what I can give back to them,” Van den Berg told LTFC+

Van den Berg, a former Netherlands youth international, says creativity and energy are central to his game and believes those traits can help Luton going forward.

“I always like to be creative and find solutions for the team and I like to think I have a good energy and attitude.”

He also showed an awareness of the club’s recent journey, referencing Luton’s rapid rise and his desire to help the Hatters move upward again.

“Of course I remember Luton playing in the Premier League and the Championship, and hopefully we can make the step back up soon as possible.”

Van den Berg added that working under manager Jack Wilshere was another major attraction, particularly given the manager’s background as a midfielder for Arsenal and England.

“And I certainly think I can learn a lot from the manager, especially as a midfield player, and the way he played,” he said.

Born in Uden, Van den Berg spent a decade in PSV Eindhoven’s academy before spells with Utrecht, Roda JC and PEC Zwolle, where he helped win promotion to the Eredivisie. He moves to England having made appearances in both the Eredivisie and Europa League this season, and is now determined to make his mark at Kenilworth Road.
