Luton will make their long-awaited Premier League debut at Kenilworth Road when West Ham United come to town for a televised clash on Friday night and a fan group has been speaking about what the historic moment will mean for the club and its followers.
The Luton Town Supporters’ Trust has been podcasting about the Hatters since 2017 and is the longest-running show about the club, tagging themselves as the only football podcast to have gone from League Two to the Premier League, as they’ve followed the club’s remarkable rise up the pyramid.
Now it their seventh season, the podcast – which features Trust chairman Tony Murray and media man Kevin Harper, The Lutonian writer James Cunliffe and plus fan Dan Barratt-Davis – has transformed from its monthly long-form instalment to regular, shorter weekly shows, including a new video offering, filmed at the Hightown Club, as well as their audio shows.
The podcast will cover each game in Town’s first-ever campaign in the Premier League with match previews, reviews and exclusive interviews with players and staff.
In the latest West Ham preview podcast, Harper referencing Town’s position in the non-league a decade ago, says: “We’ve been through hell and we’re back and on Friday night the whole football world’s going to see just what it means to every single Lutonian in that ground.”
In a statement posted along with their West Ham preview podcast, the Luton Town Supporters’ Trust Podcast wrote: ‘This is it, Hatters! The moment we’ve all been waiting for is nearly upon us. The Amex Stadium and Stamford Bridge are fine, but we’ve all dreamed of watching Premier League football at Kenilworth Road and soon we will.
‘The old girl has had a revamp over the summer and we can’t wait to be there for a cauldron atmosphere, the like of which few of us have seen before.
‘And there’s the not-insignificant matter of trying to win our first points of the campaign against an unbeaten West Ham United side that sits second in the Premier League and has already seen off Brighton and Chelsea, the two teams Luton has already played.
‘So, how on earth can Luton start this new era with a positive result? Well, we’ve got the full podcast gang of Kev, Tony, James and Dan to discuss just that.’
