On the same day she celebrated her 30th birthday, Revee Walcott-Nolan ensured her place in tomorrow’s showpiece final alongside Great Britain team-mate Katie Snowden with a strong performance in the third and final 1500m qualifying heat at the European Indoor Championships.
After claiming silver in the UK Athletics Indoor Championships in Birmingham last month, the Luton runner positioned herself wide in lane one for a clear view of the track ahead, while expertly fending off challenges from behind.
After moving smoothly into lane two, Walcott-Nolan then surged from fourth to second with 400m remaining, maintaining composure and control.
Despite late pressure from Switzerland’s Audrey Wind and the Netherlands’ Jasmijn Damink, Walcott-Nolan held firm to secure second place, crossing the line in 4:14.38 to book her place in the final.
Reflecting on her race, she told British Athletics: “I’m happy I got through safely – there was a bit of pushing, but I got out unscathed, so I’m happy with that. The crowd was so good: a lap, two laps to go, everyone was screaming. Sometimes in a heat when you are running a lot slower than you are used to, you can get a bit lost, but the crowd keeps you going and you remember you are on a big stage and performing.”
