Luton’s Revée Walcott-Nolan said she was “relieved” to have qualified for the women’s 1500 metres semi-final at the second opportunity after finishing second in the repechage.
The Team GB runner had originally missed out on qualification during her heat yesterday when she finished eighth after a series of collisions in which she said she was “spiked” by competitors running shoes.
But in the repechage, the 29-year-old ran a brave race, leading until the final lap with a photo finish confirming her in second place behind Italy’s Sintayehu Vissa, with a time of 4:06.73.
That was enough to join fellow Brits Laura Muir and Georgia Bell in the semi-finals, improving on Walcott-Nolan’s first Games in Tokyo when she missed out on the semis by 0.01 seconds.
She said on her Instagram account: “Relieved to make it safely through the repechage.
I’ll be back again tomorrow evening in heat 2 of the semi-final 18:47 (GMT) 19:47 (CET)”
