Luton midfielder Joe Morrell asked his girlfriend to buy Euro 2020 Panini stickers of him from eBay after he was selected in Wales’ 26-man squad for this summer’s tournament.
The European Championships finally get started on June 11 after getting postponed last summer due to the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.
Despite limited game time with Luton, Morrell has been a regular fixture with Wales, winning 14 caps, but his inclusion in the international squad sunk in when he was aware he’d been made it into the famous sticker album.
“To have a sticker is pretty surreal so I’ve got a few at home now,” Morrell said.
“I can’t imagine Gaz (Gareth Bale) or Rambo (Aaron Ramsey) doing it but for me, the first time, it’s something special.
“I got my girlfriend to buy one off eBay because I didn’t want to be seen getting my own sticker. I felt it would have been a bit weird with my email address coming up.”
Morrell will be hoping to be involved in or Wednesday’s friendly against world champions France and then Albania on Saturday before Wales tournament begins on June 12 in Baku against Switzerland.
