Jack Walton is poised to challenge to be Luton’s number one goalkeeper, according to loan club Dundee United.
The Hatters triggered a one-year contract extension for stopper earlier this month to ensure he remained a Town player despite having spent the last two seasons on loan with the Scottish Premiership outfit, helping them qualifying for European football next season.
United manager Jim Goodwin admitted that Walton’s Kenilworth Road contract extension left his plans to permanently sign the 27-year-old “up in the air” and today the keeper’s return to Bedfordshire was confirmed as Dundee announced their end of season retained list. Midfielder Allan Campbell, who joined Dundee on a short-term deal from Luton Town in January, has also been released.
A statement today from Tangerines about Walton said: “After keeping 36 clean sheets in 86 appearances between the sticks and topping the William Hill Premiership save charts with a staggering 112 stops throughout the term, Jack Walton returns to Luton Town with our sincere gratitude for his services as he looks to challenge for the number one jersey at Kenilworth Road.”
Walton also posted on his Instagram account: “It’s been an amazing 2 years Arabs! Thank you to the fans for the support and love you have given me, whilst I’ve been at the club. Enjoy the European tour.”
Goalkeepers Tim Krul and Jameson Horlick will both be released by Luton when their contracts expire this summer, leaving Walton in competition with current number one Thomas Kaminski and James Shea.
