Luton Town midfielder Marvelous Nakamba captained Zimbabwe as they qualified for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations – and the scenes afterwards will put a smile on your face.
The Warriors drew 1-1 with Kenya, a match in which the Hatter star started knowing that a point would be enough to secure their place in next year’s championships in Morocco.
Nakamba’s 90 minutes were his first of the season for club or country, and he has featured in 86 minutes across four matches since last month’s international break, all off the bench.
But for on duty for his country, there was plenty of celebrating to be done after reaching the AFCON for the sixth time in Zimbabwe’s history.
Zimbabwe still have one more game of their AFCON qualifying campaign with top spot in Group J up for grabs tomorrow against Cameroon.
The Warriors are one of 11 teams without defeat in the AFCON qualifiers but travel to Cameroon to face a side that is also unbeaten.
