Millwall away is one of the most difficult fixtures in the Championship, according to Luton captain Sonny Bradley, who admits his side may have to change the way they play to haul themselves out of the drop zone.
A dismal 3-0 defeat at Bristol City on Sunday stretched the Hatters’ losing run to eight games, with 25 goals conceded and just four scored and left them second from bottom on goal difference behind Barnsley and Stoke.
And after going behind at Ashton Gate in the fourth minute to a cross that they had prepped for, it meant Town have conceded first in 20 of their 25 Championship games this term.
Bradley said: “The mentality has got to change. We want to win every game. Since I’ve been at the club we’ve never come into a game setting up for a point or to stay in the game. That’s not what this football club’s about.
“We always set up to win and get after teams, but perhaps we might have to look at what we’re expecting from games. We might have to change the way we set up, who knows?
“That’s not my job, but I’m sure the manager will have a look at this game, and we’ll go to Millwall and we’ll have a plan.”
Asked if senior players would seek a conversation with Jones about changes, Bradley said: “That’s not our role. I think the manager will ask for our advice, the experienced boys, and we’ll have our say on how we feel and how we think but, ultimately, the manager is the one that picks the team and the formation, he sets us up and every time he’s set us up, we’ve really believed in it. We’ve bought into it and we’ll continue to do that, moving forward.”
Luton drew 1-1 with Millwall at Kenilworth Road in October, which turned out to by Neil Harris’ last game as Lions manager.
Since then, his successor, Gary Rowett, has won half of his 12 games in charge, including Sunday’s 1-0 win over Brentford, who had battered Town 7-0 last month.
Bradley said: “There’s plenty of work to do and a tough game coming up against Millwall. We have to improve, and we have to do that quickly.
“It’s one of the most difficult fixtures in the division, Millwall away. It’s a challenge that we’ll relish. When we have put in performances like this (Bristol) we do seem to bounce back and perform well, so we’ll quickly analyse this, quick turnaround and get the boys fresh and ready to go again against Millwall.”
