Luton Town’s emphatic 3–0 win at Stockport County has been described as a “statement performance” that shows Jack Wilshere’s side are rediscovering the Hatters’ identity.

Speaking on the latest episode of the Luton Town Supporters’ Trust Podcast, host Kevin Harper said the result felt like a defining moment after 18 months of struggle, including two consecutive relegations.

“I’m not going to whisper this quietly, I’m going to shout it from the rooftops – we’ve got our Luton back,” he said. “That was the opportunity to put a real statement out under Jack Wilshere, and they didn’t let anyone down.”

The panel, which included The Lutonian’s James Cunliffe and fan Dan Barratt-Davis, discussed how Wilshere’s side showed the character to “suffer and come out the other side” during a tough opening spell before taking control.

“It took us 15 or 20 minutes to get the ball down and start playing,” Harper said, adding: “But once we did, there was only one team in that football game. The Town were absolutely magnificent – chef’s kiss, beautiful football.”

He also praised the growing unity between players and fans, with the full-time celebrations at Edgeley Park echoing the club’s rise through the leagues. “When that whistle went, it felt like the old days,” he said. “The whole away end was together with the players. That’s what we’ve been missing for so long – that connection, that pride.”

It was only one month ago that Harper appeared on the podcast after Town’s chastening 2-0 defeat at near neighbours Stevenage, in which he pleaded, “we want our Luton back”. That proved to be former manager Matt Bloomfield’s last game in charge.

Wilshere was then installed as boss – his first full managerial role – on October 13 and Harper said the turnaround under the 33-year-old rookie has been remarkable. “What Jack and the staff have done in four weeks is nothing short of incredible,” he added. “It’s the feeling we had on the way up – the train’s picking up speed again, and it stops at promotion.”
