Luton Airport have rolled out next generation security scanners

Passengers travelling through London Luton Airport (LLA) no longer need to remove liquids and electronic items from their bags as they pass through security, following the successful roll-out of next generation security scanners.

The completion of the £20 million project positions LLA as one of the first major airports to complete the roll-out in time for the busy summer holidays.

With all security lanes at the airport now equipped with state-of-the-art body scanners and CT scanner technology, passengers travelling this summer will benefit from faster security processing times, although current Government restrictions mean bottles and containers must still be limited to 100ml or less.

Recently crowned European Airport of the year (10-25 million passengers) at the prestigious ACI EUROPE Best Airport Awards, LLA is set to welcome over 2.5 million passengers over the school holidays*.

Neil Thompson, Chief Operations Officer at London Luton Airport, said: “We are delighted to become one of the first major airports to offer the benefits of next generation security to all passengers. This investment provides London Luton Airport with enhanced screening technology that will significantly elevate the service provided to passengers flying from LLA this summer and beyond, aligning perfectly with the simple, friendly passenger experience we always look to deliver.”

Early risers can also now take advantage of LLA’s newly launched Prebook Security initiative – which is currently running on a trial basis and is available for passengers arriving at security between 3am and 4.30am. Passengers can pre-book the service from four days (up to 60 minutes) before arrival at airport security (subject to availability). It’s another option designed to make the Luton airport security experience as quick and easy as possible. The free service allows passengers to skip security queues by reserving a 10-minute slot up to four days before travelling.
