Who’s fit and who’s not for Luton ahead of big Brentford clash

Marvelous Nakamba will not be available for Luton’s trip to Brentford, but another midfielder is close to a return.

The Hatters will also have Issa Kaboré back for the short trip to west London after seeing out the concussion protocol following being knocked unconscious while on international duty with Burkina Faso.

However, Town are sweating on others ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash, with boss Rob Edwards keeping his cards close to his chest.

But the Brentford clash will be too soon for the influential midfielder Nakamba, who missed the victory over Crystal Palace, though the manager offered hope of a quick return.

“His knee, it was just a little bit swollen, a little bit of discomfort in it,” said Edwards.

“We’ve had scans and some checks and we’re hoping it’s not, and it’s not, too serious. We’ve been able to get him out on the grass a few times this week.

“I don’t think he’s going to be quite right for this weekend, but we’re very hopefully we’ll be able to see him back out there very soon.

“It’s a positive one, really. When you hear knee you start worrying that it could be worse than what it is so we’re fairly positive on that.”

And Edwards revealed that he could soon have Arsenal loanee Albert Sambi Lokonga back in contention, though it won’t be for the Brentford game while he won’t be able to play on Tuesday when his parent club come to Kenilworth Road.

Edwards said: “Sambi will be fit very, very soon. He’s out there in full training now. He’s had the all-clear but tomorrow will be too soon.

“It will be silly to put him straight back into the match-day squad after a couple of days in full training.

“It’s just about building him up in the right way now and continuing to do a lot of the work that he’s been doing with the S&C (strength and conditioning) staff, the medical guys, making sure he’s really strong and robust, but we’ll have him out in the pitch very, very soon which is great.”

Dan Potts is also back in training but not ready for match action yet, and while Kaboré’s return is a boost, Edwards said there may be other casualties.

“We’ve had a bit of an up and down week,” he said, adding: “I won’t give away too many names now for obvious reasons but we’ve had one or two that we’re still managing and are little doubts.

“Overall, the training has been good but there are just one or two that we’ll have see if they are ready or not.”
