Jack Wilshere admits Lamine Fanne was left out of contention recently due to performance levels but says the midfielder has responded positively and forced his way back into the selection conversation for tomorrow’s trip to Plymouth Argyle.

The Luton boss was candid about his disappointment following Luton’s Vertu Trophy defeat to Swindon, which saw the Spaniard omitted entirely from last weekend’s squad to face Lincoln City, which has led to speculation about his future, particularly during the transfer window.

But Fanne’s reaction in training this week has been what Wilshere was keen to see and he revealed about the midfielder’s absence for Lincoln: “I said this to him. I wasn’t happy with him from the Swindon game and I didn’t think he did enough to earn the right to be in the squad again.

“However, this week he’s been outstanding. He’s took that feedback on board. His training’s been right, his attitude’s been spot on, and I’ve got a decision to make now around the squad if he’s in or if he’s not. He’s definitely closer than he was last week. I just wasn’t happy with him from the Swindon game, that was all.

Luton this week signed Kasey Palmer on loan from Hull City, who can play a number of roles in the midfield, while the timing of Fanne’s absence had some fans wondering whether the Spaniard was on his way towards the Kenilworth Road exit door, which Wilshere acknowledged as a reaction, while reiterating his belief in what Fanne can offer when he is at his best.

“You can see how much I enjoyed working with Lamine, especially when I first came in. He was the guy that was arriving in the box, scoring important goals,” the Town boss said.

“I want him to get back to that. I want him to get him back to understanding what his strengths are and how he can help the team. He gives us something and we want him around.

“He obviously got taken off at halftime against Stevenage, because he wasn’t giving us that in that game. He’s someone that gives us something and we want him around.”
